Hastine Info | Watch Fraught First Trailer for Kathryn Bigelows 1967 Riot Film Detroit

The tense first trailer for Detroit, an upcoming film about the deadly 1967 riots in the Motor City, has been unveiled.

In the film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega stars as a police officer who witnesses firsthand the clash between the African-American community and law enforcement.

The first trailer offers a tableau of different characters that will eventually get swept up into one of the deadliest riots in United States history. The Revenants Will Poulter, Anthony Mackie, John Krasinski and the singer Miguel also appear in Detroit.

Forty-three people were killed and nearly 1,200 were injured in the five-day riot, which was sparked after police raided an unlicensed bar celebrating the return of two Vietnam War vets and arrested everyone in attendance. The incident resulted in looting, widespread fires, mob violences and sniper fire as federal troops and state police attempted to quell the riots.

Detroit is the latest collaboration between director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal, following their Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker and their 2012 film Zero Dark Thirty.

Detroit arrives in theaters on August 4th, just a week after the 50th anniversary of the 12th Street riot.
