One of the greatest Westerns of all time will receive a modern feel as the remake of The Magnificent Seven itself a remake of Seven Samurai hits theaters this September. The first trailer for the Antoine Fuqua-directed film, which stars Denzel Washington in the lead role of a pistol-packing outlaw whos hired to exact revenge against an industrialist causing havoc in a small town, has been unveiled, with the remake promising a grittier, more violent spin on the original.
In the film, Washingtons Sam Chisolm recruits a band of misfits including gunslingers played by Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke to form the titular groupwho sign up for a suicide mission against an army of enforcers under the rein of Peter Sarsgaards villain. The Western reunites Washington and Fuqua, who previously directed the actor in their classic Training Day and the vigilante flick The Equalizer.
True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto is also credited as co-writer on The Magnificent Seven, with the scribes biting dialogue on display in the trailer. So you seek revenge?, Washingtons character asks a townswoman played by Haley Bennett, who sneers back, I seek righteousness but Ill take revenge.
The Magnificent Seven opens in theaters September 23rd.
