Hastine Info | Frozen Musical Headed to Broadway


Disneys hit animated movie Frozenwill arrive on Broadway as a musical in the spring of 2018, The New York Timesreports.

Original Frozen screenwriter and co-director, Jennifer Lee, will pen the book, and music masterminds Robert Lopez (Book of Mormon) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will compose the score and write the lyrics. All three earnedOscars for their work on the 2013 film: Lee for Best Animated Film with co-director Chris Buck and producer Peter Del Vecho, andLopez and Anderson-LopezBest Original Song for Let It Go.

The Broadway adaptationwill also feature a handful of theater heavyweights, including Alex Timbers as director, Peter Darling as choreographer and Bob Crowley as scenic and costume designer. Timbers previously helmed Disneys Peter and the Starcatcher, and broke out with his emo rock opera, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. Darling won a Tony for his choreography inBilly Elliot, while Crowley has garnered seven trophies throughouthis career, including two for Disneys Aida and Mary Poppins.

Prior to Frozens 2018 debut on Broadway, a developmental production will run outside of New York in the summer of 2017. A city has yet to be announced, as well as exact dates for bothproductions.

Along with the Broadway show, aFrozensequel was announced last March, with both Lee and Buck signed on to develop the project. The 2013 animated film was a monumental success for Disney, raking innearly$1.3 billion at the Box Office, while Let It Go as sung by star IdinaMenzel peaked at Number Five on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped make the Frozen soundtrack the highest selling album of 2014, withnearly 3.5 million copies sold.
